Be sure to use caution when crossing the Mississippi River bridge to Chester,
Ill.
Tips
for Cyclists
- For safety, all riders MUST
wear helmets.
- Try to get some rides in before Tour de Grape. Both days of the tour
have hills, with the first having some signficant climbs. If you live
in the St. Louis area, we suggest riding on some Trailnet
Bicycle Fun Club rides and the Gateway Council of Hostelling
International's Tour
de Stooges before riding Tour de Grape.
- Tour de Grape will run rain or shine and would
only be cancelled if very severe weather such as a tornado occurs.
- Follow bikers' etiquette and ride no more than two abreast. In heavy
traffic, you need to ride single file.
- SAG support will be provided to help you if you
have bike trouble, but be sure to check your bike before you arrive
so that it is in top condition.
- First Aid will be available at all rest stops and
REACT volunteers will coordinate any safety or health issues with local
officials.
- Riders must store their bikes at their overnight
accommodations and make their own transportation arrangements between
Farmington
and Ste. Genevieve.
- Some highways are truck routes. Be aware of
trucks passing and crossing over highways.
- Riders are welcome to visit tourist attractions
on the route, but please, do not wear cleats inside buildings.
- Local Bed and Breakfasts book early so reservations
need to be made several months in advance.
- Mesa Cycles of St. Louis and other volunteers will be
providing SAG service both days of the ride. SAG support will end at
4 p.m. both days. Rides will be available for people unable to complete
the ride.
