About HavenHouse St. Louis

HavenHouse provides the comfort of home and a community of support to more than 1,350 families each year who travel to St. Louis to receive medical care for their children.

family Of the 3,600 people served each year, more than one-third are children, either the patients themselves or their siblings. More than half of the families live in Missouri or eastern Illinois, and to date, guests have come from 42 states and 17 foreign countries. Last year, more than 30 families arrived from the counties on the Tour de Grape route.

The average stay is 5.1 days, but many families stay for 6 months or more when their child is awaiting transplant, is in neonatal intensive care, or is recovering from surgery.

In addition to room, meals and transportation to and from area hospitals each day, guests may use the gymnasium, internet library, weight room, game room, children's library, and lounges. HavenHouse provides free nationwide long distance, laundry facilities, kitchens and play rooms.

child The facility is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by employees experienced in social service work. Counseling, school enrollment, day care and connections to faith communities can be arranged, and host families and family fun nights provide opportunities for relaxation and community building. In short, HavenHouse provides what a family needs to rest, regain their strength, and focus on their critically, chronically or terminally ill child.

The full time staff of 7 and part time staff of 3 is assisted by more than 500 volunteers. Families pay a minimal fee, and more than two-thirds of the cost of HavenHouse is provided by individual, foundation and company gifts.

The Tour de Grape is a major fundraiser, and will provide significant support for families in medical crisis.
